Role of upland forest soils in regional methane balance from catchment to global scales

Start day

End day

The aim of the project is to elaborate the role of forests as a regulator of the regional methane balance. The remote sensing of vegetation and ground moisture is used with elevation profiles on the ground to predict the conditions in which forests are transformed into methane sources and to interpolate methane emissions from the local area to larger areas. The multidisciplinary approach of the project allows for a more accurate analysis of the methane balances of northern ecosystems.

The major scientific results of this project will be published in open access refereed journals. The results will be also presented at relevant international conferences, seminars and in talks to the public. Information will be provided to the scientific community and the public through the www. Dedicated project web -pages will be established at the FMI.
