Past trends and future potential of forest production in Finland

The project provides information on the adaptive capacity of Finnish forests to environmental changes. This is achieved by developing a novel multidisciplinary approach for forecasting the development of Finnish forests utilising high-resolution multisource forest data. We analyse the production potential of the Finnish forests during 2019 – 2048 with special emphasis on risks related to environmental changes. The results will show how the altered forcing and feedback mechanisms affect biomass production potential of forests, and provide indications how management practices should be adapted to changing conditions. The project provides detailed predictions for small areas (~20 000 ha), which are crucial for forestry-related political decision-making as well as for forest sector enterprises.
