Vegetative propagation enables the production of uniform forest regeneration material of high quality and with known characteristics for different end uses. The aim of the project is to improve cost efficiency of vegetative propagation of Norway spruce based on tissue culture i.e. somatic embryogenesis. Mass propagation of spruce emblings is piloted in collaboration
with forest plant producer, and registration will be applied for the first set of embryogenic spruce lines.
In the project, the technologies acquired by preceeding project, namely LED lightning and bioreactors, are further tested and optimized for production of spruce emblings to reduce amount of manual labor needed in the process, and to improve energy efficiency. Overall, as a result of the project, opportunities for commercial production of spruce emblings can be evaluated by the stakeholders.
