Assessing the role of climate factors in association with spread of invasive Phytophthora species in forests and from urban landscapes

Phytophthoras in changing climate

The project aims to understand how the present distribution range and activity of Phytophthora species, as well as its future establishment and rate of disease progress in forests and urban landscapes, will be affected by climatic stressors resembling scenarios anticipated for Nordic countries.

Increased knowledge of invasive Phytophthora species affecting these regions, and how their behavior is influenced by climatic triggers, will help to formulate optimal mitigation and management strategies to minimize losses to tree species of high economic and ecological importance.
