Roadside inventory of storm damage

Due to changing climate, the risk of storm damage is estimated to increase in Finland. Not only because the risk of strong winds during late autumn and early winter is higher, but also of shorter period of ground frost and increased snow load on tree crowns.

This project will develop method for detecting storm damage areas by roadside inventory to get "snapshot" of the storm damage for planning of future actions.

Project will develop a probability model to detect storm damage areas from the roadside. In addition model to estimate the area of storm damage and volume of damage trees will be developed.
