Goals

Peatland drainage fundamentally changes the water table levels, flow paths of the waters, peat accumulation, acidity and nutrient conditions. These changes have decreased the representativeness and species diversity of the Natura 2000 habitat types. The aim of the project is to safeguard the biodiversity of peatlands by restoring over 100 peatland sites in Finland.

Outputs

Through the surveys and interviews at least 3800 people will have been reached to evaluate the interest, awareness, opinions, trade-offs and opportunities of people concerning hydrological restoration carried out in this project. Quantitative and qualitative attributes will have been used to summarize the socio-economic impacts of the project on the local economy and population.
