The economic enhancement of manure processing via VFA production

ManureVFA

The aim of the study is to assess the possibilities of producing volatile fatty acids (VFAs) from cow slurry in anaerobic digesters. The production of VFAs is possible by manipulating and optimizing the methane production process. In the future, anaerobic digesters treating agro-biomasses, e.g. manures, could possibly produce bio-chemicals instead of biogas enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the processing.

The results can be applied in the existing and planned farm-scale biogas plants, in the manure management and logistics. The results will be published in Lukes report series and in an international peer-reviewed journal along with the results from the preceding VFA production projects.
