Vegetative propagation provides means for production of forest regeneration material originating in selected trees, having e.g. superior growth or suitable traits for special end-uses. A vegetative propagation method based on somatic embryogenesis (SE) has been developed for Norway spruce, and is functional in laboratory scale. This projects focuses on enabling the further applications of spruce SE by testing SE-lines and a novel method to initiate cultures from bud explants.
The project will produce test information on spruce SE-lines including e.g. their embryo production capacity and acclimatization of emblings. In addition, Luke’s SE-technology platform will be planned.
