New strategies of whitefly management in greenhouse vegetables

JAUSTRA

The aim of the project is to improve technical and economic efficiency of whitefly control in tomatoe and cucumber production through practice-oriented collaboration between producers, advisors, researchers and equipment suppliers. The project will make use of existing information, supplemented by data from commercial crops, and modelling of whitefly population dynamics. The solutions produced in this way are directly applicable in practice. Work packages: TP 1: Better organization of plant protection with company inventories; TP 2: TRIZ (Inventive Problem Solving) to focus research and accelerate product development; TP 3: Smarter pest monitoring; TP 4: Mechanical control and mass capture; TP 5: Better bio-control by slowing the reproduction of whiteflies through plant fertilization; TP6: Contingency plans for the control of cotton whitefly (Bemisia tabaci).
