Fostering the competitiveness of livestock farms through Improved biosecurity

EläinBioTurva

The health status of farm animals in Finland is good when compared to foreign competitors, but maintaining the situation requires continuous development of disease control on farms. Increasing farm size and more specialized production also pose new challenges to the biosecurity. The aim of the project is to improve the animal health risk management of cattle, pig and poultry farms through effective communication and information dissemination and thus promote competitiveness of production.

The project will collate and disseminate information on various aspects of biosecurity, includin the use of hygienic barrier and protective clothing, animal procurements, storage and destruction of dead carcasses, feed hygiene, cleanings at the farm and farm logistics. The project produces, among other things, written communication material, good practice guidelines and videos, and organizes webinars and seminars.
