Luke in The Night of Science on Jan 20 at 17–18: The possibilities of new bio-based material solutions

News 20.1.2022

Welcome to the Night of Science!

Are you interested in the possibilities of bio-circular economy? How can underutilized raw materials be turned into products with high added value? Are you familiar with bio-based masks or antiviral coatings?

Join Luke’s researchers in ”Functional Material Solutions – Towards Sustainable World”, a virtual event of Night of the Science, today on Thursday 20.1. at 17-18. We have versatile topics on offer. We will, for example, cover how by using nature’s own bio-based solutions we can enhance the safety and functionality of products. We show videos and animations in the event and you will have chances to ask questions from the researchers present.

The Natural Resources Institute of Finland (Luke) and the University of Jyväskylä (JyU) are cooperating in pioneering research: From the Finnish forests we have discovered biologically active products that are greatly effective against viruses and bacteria. The impact of these products is extensive: unlike alcohol-based disinfectants, they kill a broader range of viruses. These inventions can be utilized in face masks, cosmetics, cleaners, and coatings.¨
You can enter the Liveto event platform of Luke’s event by clicking here.

Participation requires logging in (a guest log in with a nickname is enough). Instructions for the login are available on Liveto’s website. Luke’s program is in English and the subtitles are in Finnish.

Almost 50 science events are included in the Night of Science

The Night of Science is an annual block party for science and research. It is organized in the centre of Helsinki and online. The Night of Science 2022 is celebrated on the 20th of January and it contains more science events than ever before. The program of the Night is published on The Night of Science's website. The multiple events of the Night of Science offer science and research in many forms. The program includes events in Finnish, Swedish and English. All events are free of charge!

The program of the Night of Science has been created in collaboration with almost 80 different actors and organizations. The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies is responsible for the coordination and communication of the event. The Night of Science is funded by the Kone Foundation.
