Can mixed forests provide a wide range of ecosystem services in the future?

Mixi

Main objectives are to:

- identify the current research-based knowledge on the performance of mixed forests in providing ecosystem services compared to single species forests,

- specify the most efficient forest management methods for increasing the proportion of broadleaf trees in current and future forests and

- develop methods for increasing the resistance of forests to abiotic and biotic damages and resilience in a changing environment by means of increasing the proportion of mixed forests

We identify and analyse the current scientific knowledge, knowledge gaps and bottle necks related to the management of boreal mixed forests and the role of broadleaf trees in providing ecosystem services. In this project will be also studied how mixed forests can be affected by controlling tree species relationships the risk of browsing.
