Isojen biohiilisuodattimien käyttö ja arvoketju ravinteiden kierrätyksessä

IBKAR

BACKGROUND
Biochar production is increasing in Finland and big investments have been introduced in Mikkeli and Nurmes.. Agricultural use of biochar has not increased and value chains have not been described and identified in Finland. Biochar could offer 100% recyclable materiel for water purification and nutrient recycling.

These pilot experiments in IBKAR will act as concrete examples how biochar value chain could be established in practise. The results will encourage entrepreneurs to create innovative new bio-based solutions in industrial environments. Scientific documentation of practical experiments will improve investors trust on these innovative solutions.

OBJECTIVES
To identify value chains and feasibility of large scale biochar filters in water purification and nutrient recycling. To test functional feasibility of selected biochar in different filtering environments/solutions. To identify further research and development work needed to facilitate creation of feasible value chains

IMPACT
These preliminary results will attract biochar producers to create joint funded project aiming to optimize biochar quality with respect to different kind of filtering solutions.
