Biogeochemical cycling of gold and microbial species as gold indicators in soil

Aim of this project is to characterise microbial community structure in metal anomalous soils and mineralisations across Lapland. Bacterial communities are characterized by next generation sequencing and taxa enriched around gold deposits are identified.

A database of soil bacterial phylotypes across key metallogenic sites in Lapland will be generated by next generation sequencing and bacterial community structure will be correlated with soil geochemical properties. The project will produce fundamental understanding of geo-bio-interactions in metallogenic soils.
