Genomic Resources of the Native Domestic Animal Breeds

NativeGen

One of the goals in the Finnish National Genetic Resource Program is the genetic characterization of animal genetic resources using the modern genomic methods. This project explores the specific characteristics, genome architecture, and diversity of the genomes of the Finnish indigenous breeds using modern genome sequencing and bioinformatics methods. The Animal Genetic Resource Team of the Natural Resources Center has already published a so-called reference genome for the Finnish reindeer, and the corresponding one is being completed for the native Finnsheep. In this project, reference genomes are built for Finnhorse, Western Finncattle and the Finnish Landrace chicken breed.
